It’s an ordinary day at PK Boston, a real estate firm in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, where closing documents are signed, a home has just been purchased, and congratulations are given.
Except this time, everyone at the table is wearing a mask and gloves, no hands are shaken, and great pains are made to wipe down trafficked areas after each client meeting.
“Businesses categorized as essential, such as law firms, have a duty to make their clients safe – and feel safe,” said Robert R. Pellegrini, Jr. Esq., “that’s why we do everything we can to ensure a sanitary closing.”
It doesn’t stop the overall atmosphere from being welcoming and affable, however. PK Boston employees still manage to keep the atmosphere light – and without delay.
There are the expected jokes and comments about the ‘new normal’ and the faint aroma of Clorox,” says office manager Jana Regan, “but we try to make the process fast and easy so clients can be on their way.”
PK Boston’s methods for improving sanitary conditions:
- Wiping down all door knobs, tables, chairs and pens before and after closings
- Opening windows and blinds to allow for circulated air and sunlight
- Ensuring all documents are pre-tabbed, so the borrower can quickly and efficiently navigate through the documents
- The closing attorney sits at the far end of the meeting room
- Encourage clients to wear masks and gloves to the closing
“One thing that hasn’t changed is the relief that the buying process was completed,” said Attorney Pellegrini, “we are glad we can help do our part in moving our clients’ lives forward when everything else, it seems, has stopped.”
