Once you have all your estate planning documents signed, you need to find a safe place to keep them. The safest place may be in a bank safe deposit box, but there could be difficulties when your family is trying to access the safe deposit box after you die. A better option may be to keep it at home, in a fire-proof safe, but make sure family members know how to access the safe.
Some attorneys may keep original copies of your documents, if so, make sure the attorneys are given up to date contact information for you, in case you move, or in case the attorney retires or moves offices.
If you do use either of these options, you may want to keep copies at home with your other personal documents.
It is usually not a good idea to give family members a copy of your will because you may want to change how your estate is distributed and then you will need to get the will back.
