Preparing yourself and your family is key during any crisis. Staying calm and performing the necessary steps to ensure the security of your family will save time and headaches that you’ll want to avoid in case of emergency. Your piece of mind is most important during a time of uncertainty which is why PK Boston Law is here to help.
We will deliver documents for signature in two formats:
- Electronically
- By Federal Express while it continues deliveries
Once you have reviewed the documents and we have answered all of your questions and concerns, via telephone or video conference, we will witness and notarize your estate plan via one of the two following options:
- Sealed documents delivered to your doorstep or window by appointment
- via Video Notary (pending approval from the Massachusetts legislature)
Normally, a comprehensive estate plan will include steps such as designating an executor, a guardian/conservator if you have minor children, identifying your emergency contacts, or creating a revocable living trust to maximize flexibility and control.
Our clients are prioritizing Estate Planning – just in case,” Robert R Pellegrini, Jr. Esq., president, PK Boston Law
But how can a global pandemic change your estate planning?
The worst case scenario? Your Personal Representative has a health issue. Other possibilities could include delay or cancel plans, sell stocks for a loss, jobs and other investment projects (like selling a house or buying real estate) that may warrant revisions to your existing estate plan.
Here are a few steps:
Make sure your estate planning is in order and reviewed by your attorney.
- Ensure that you name a beneficiary for your accounts, which may not be included in your estate plan (401K, IRA, life insurance policy) and fill out the forms necessary
- Update your bank and investment accounts. You may be able to log onto a provider’s site and list your trustee to side-step delays and problems later
- Lastly, review, review, review! Read your estate plan with the mindset that it should both work for you and satisfy your expectations and desires – now and in the future
